We’re spending a few days at a resort overlooking the Indian Ocean on the eastern side of the United Arab Emirates. After bearing through the torrid months of August and September, the weather has tempered nicely. I’m told it will stay this way until March.
We’re enjoying the Eid holiday, a celebration for Muslims that commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael. (A reminder that Christianity, Judaism and Islam share a common history.) The holiday also marks the beginning of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest site.
