Check out this raw video taken at an FBI raid of a government office in D.C. today. A woman, apparently with the FBI, tells the person shooting the video that he can’t record the scene because “this is an FBI search warrant.” The cameraman calmly replies that he’s “a member of the media.” She doesn’t say another word. Nice to see the power of the press still carries a lot of weight. I’m sure no public official wants to get caught trying to suppress the press — especially in his YouTube environment.
I have no idea whether an employed journalist took this video, but my advice to anyone recording anything at anytime is to take the same approach to similar directives. Anyone with a camcorder and access to the Internet is essentially “member of the media.” And that dubious title still earns special treatment.
