Take a moment to watch this trailer for “Taking Chance,” a fact-based story about an officer who accompanies the body of a 19-year-old Marine killed in Iraq. It doesn’t purport to take a stand on the Iraq War, but it does clearly show a reverence for the military and portrays people that don’t hold a disdain for war as a senseless endeavor. In this way, the film stands in stark contrast to the slew of recent Iraq war films that suffered quick box-office deaths after focusing on the frivolity of the war.
It’s a shame that this film will air only on HBO. Perhaps a strong box-office performance would have awakened the Hollywood executives who have yet to greenlight one Iraq War film that leaves audiences with a good feeling about the military. After all, many people still enjoy watching films in which honor and valor are depicted as positive character traits.
