Just wrote this email to my state senator:
Just paid my car tax online and received a $4.95 surcharge labeled a “convenience fee.” I find it hard to believe that it’s costing the state of Georgia $5 to let me pay my tax online. If anything, I’m sure I’m saving the state money (in labor, overhead, etc.)
In this day and age isn’t it ridiculous to charge extra to do anything over the Web?
Anyhoo, perhaps you might want to suggest a law eliminating this fee in the wake of the car tax elimination defeat.

They just tried (unsuccessfully) to wipe out the tax on automobiles entirely. I’ll let you know how he responds.
